Vanessa Pawlicki was arrested on Monday in Marion County, Florida.
She faces a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.
Deputies reported that an eyewitness saw her hit, kick and drag a child by his hair.
The alleged incident occurred as punishment after the child got in trouble at church.
According to the arrest report, the witness said Pawlicki struck the child.
The witness said Pawlicki then kicked him.
The witness also reported that Pawlicki dragged the child inside the home by his hair.
Pawlicki’s daughter saw what was happening, according to the eyewitness account.
The witness reported that the daughter said, “Great, my mother is going to jail.”
Then Pawlicki allegedly began coaching the child on what to tell authorities, investigators said.
Investigators said Pawlicki allegedly told the child to claim he had been hurt while playing.
She allegedly told the boy he would go to jail if he told the truth.

A medical evaluation of the child was subsequently conducted.
During the examination, bruising was found across the child’s head.
Bruising was also documented across his arms and chest.
Examiners found additional bruising across the child’s back and legs.
When interviewed by deputies, the child denied being abused.
The child told deputies that he fell off a bed.
But investigators said the injuries were consistent with abuse rather than simply striking a bed frame.
Pawlicki denied abusing the child.
She told authorities she did not know how the bruising occurred beyond the reported bed incident.
And investigators ultimately concluded that the eyewitness account was consistent with the child’s injuries.
Investigators also concluded that the child had likely been coached to lie.
The Department of Children and Families has since removed the children from Pawlicki’s care.
Pawlicki is currently charged and has not been convicted.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
