A 23-year-old father and his girlfriend face juvenile cruelty charges after a toddler was hospitalized with bleeding inside her skull, authorities said.
Carlton Webb, 23, the child’s biological father, and his girlfriend, Monica Wilson, 34, were charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to the sheriff’s office.
Medical staff documented the brain bleed alongside numerous injuries in different stages of healing, records show.
Detectives traced the alleged physical abuse back to July 2025, more than one year before the girl’s hospitalization, authorities said.
On August 30, Webb and Wilson allegedly told deputies that an unknown man struck the girl with an electric scooter and fled. Detectives determined the scooter story was false and uncovered the alleged abuse, investigators said.

On September 2, deputies arrested Webb and Wilson, according to officials.
Both defendants were booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, records show.
On September 4, the sheriff announced the arrests while the girl remained hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said.
Louisiana law defines second-degree cruelty to a juvenile as intentional or criminally negligent mistreatment or neglect causing serious bodily injury or neurological impairment.
Each defendant faces up to 40 years at hard labor if convicted, according to the statute.
The charges remain allegations, and neither defendant has been convicted, records show.
