A Nebraska caretaker has entered no-contest pleas to manslaughter and theft after a 67-year-old woman in her care died from neglect, authorities said.
Nicky Budlong worked as a caretaker in Nebraska, where she had been entrusted with caring for four vulnerable adults, investigators said.
In February 2025, 67-year-old Kathy Snider died while placed under the caretaker’s direct care, authorities said.
The victim’s death resulted from neglect while she was under Budlong’s care, authorities said.
Investigators said the criminal case against the caretaker was not solely about neglect. Budlong was also accused of stealing at least $83,000 from people placed under her care, authorities said.

The caretaker resolved the allegations by pleading no contest to manslaughter and two counts of theft by unlawful taking, court records show.
Budlong entered no-contest pleas, meaning she did not formally admit guilt to the accusations. The plea instead allowed the court to convict and sentence her without contesting the charges, records state.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of abuse of a vulnerable adult, records show.
An additional theft charge that had been filed against her was also dismissed under the negotiated deal, prosecutors said.
The caretaker now stands convicted on the manslaughter charge and the two remaining theft counts, according to court documents.
Budlong is scheduled to be sentenced November 18.
