Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks has determined that Reno police officers were justified in shooting a man during a 2022 disturbance call.
The incident happened Aug. 8, 2022, in southwest Reno.
Police said Brandon Douglas Allan was armed with a knife when officers arrived to confront him.
Allan also had a handgun tucked into his waistband, according to police.
Two Reno officers opened fire on the scene.
The officers discharged a total of seven rounds.
Allan fell face down in the roadway.
He was taken to the hospital following the gunfire.
Allan survived after undergoing a lengthy recovery.
Then his criminal proceedings moved forward through the legal system.

In 2025, Allan pleaded guilty to two counts of obstructing and resisting an officer.
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office addressed the timing of its official findings.
Officials said the release of the report was delayed until Allan’s criminal case was resolved.
The delay was put in place so the findings would not interfere with the prosecution.
But with the criminal case now completed, the final legal determination was issued.
District Attorney Hicks established that the officers’ use of deadly force was legally justified.
Knife in hand.
Gun in waistband.
Two officers fired seven rounds.
Allan survived.
He pleaded guilty to resisting police.
The shooting has been cleared.
